What was the most popular high school Latin textbook for the Aeneid in the 1950s/60s? I want to get a copy of a text containing good grammatical notes. Older books seem to have good footnotes. So if anyone knows the name of the book they used back then, please let me know. What was the most popular high school Latin textbook for the Aeneid in the 1950s/60s?
I don't know about what book was most popular in the 50s or 60s, but when I took AP Latin (Vergil) two years ago we used Clyde Pharr's edition. It was very useful and had very thorough footnotes. However, it only includes book 1-6. Its copyright page (according to Amazon) says it was first published in 1964.

If you're studying for the AP Latin exam, "A Vergil Workbook" by Katherine Bradley and Barbara Weiden Boyd includes exercises that correspond to the required texts for the exam, and help not only with grammar and vocabulary, but also with comprehension and essay-writing.

I have never used this next book, which is by Barbara Weiden Boyd, but I have heard good things about it. It contains a literal translation of the required reading for the AP, comprehension questions, and grammatical notes.

All three of these books are published by Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers.
