Do I cite the primary source, or do I cite the textbook?
Could you please provide the format of whichever it is. Thanks.If a textbook quotes a primary source and I use something from the primary source, what do I cite?
If you're taking the information that you use from the textbook, cite the textbook. Unless you've actually consulted the primary source itself, you should cite the source from which you took the information.
For example, I found an article for my term paper in Facts on File whose original source was The Baltimore Sun. I had to cite Facts on File, since that's where I found the article.
