What is the textbook that they use in art schools to teach students how to understand light and shade?

There must be some book(s) that they use. I am not in art school yet, but I'd like to know what they use. Or do they just get hands on instruction in light and shade without the aid of some book?What is the textbook that they use in art schools to teach students how to understand light and shade?

I am in college, and have studied four books that have went over the same information. The best out of any series like that though, is one that is about sketching on a basic level. Like a drawing 101 book. There are a lot of them out there at the library that you would not even have to buy if you wanted to. I will tell you this though, you will be going over it again when you reach there too, but it is better to learn it before you go, so you have some idea before you get there.What is the textbook that they use in art schools to teach students how to understand light and shade?
