Do I have to cite something if I learned the material in a textbook for another class?

ok so im doing a research paper on the battle of midway for english class (its based on the book night by elie weisel- WWII related)



i got a little background info from my history textbook. I had to read the section which had the information for homework, so do i have to cite it?Do I have to cite something if I learned the material in a textbook for another class?

You should cite it, even if you're only using the idea and not writing it word for word.
