Is there really much difference between different editions of a book?Is it necessary to always have the latest edition of a textbook?
Publishing is a racket-- the only thing different by editions, generally speaking, is a few headings, pics, and words shuffled around.
If publishers put out textbooks that lasted forever, they'd never stay in business. New editions are strictly for revenue.
Usually not, but like others have said, double check with the prof. I've noticed that it's not a good idea for math books, because the numbers on the problems are different. So if your prof tell you do to problems 1-15 for homework, your equations are going to be different. Beware of that. Generally speaking though, you should be fine. Just double check with someone who has the most recent edition to make sure it's (mostly) the same stuff. Is it necessary to always have the latest edition of a textbook?
There isn't a lot of difference between editions of textbooks. However, if your lecturer is using the current addition and you're using an older one, you'll find the page numbers won't match and maybe the diagrams might be different.
You should contact the professor to ask if it is imperative to have the latest edition. I just saved money this way by buying the 7th edition of a book for $3 rather than the 8th for over $100.Is it necessary to always have the latest edition of a textbook?
You should check with your prof. Sometimes the previous edition is almost exactly the same as the newer edition.
not necessary
