Is there any big difference between textbook editions?

I'm looking to buy a particular textbook.. The previous edition is much cheaper. If I were to buy that, would I be ok with the course? I've heard that basically the only difference between editions is that the topics are switched around. Example: 7th edition's chapter 3 might be about a particular topic and in edition 8, that same topic is now in chapter 5.Is there any big difference between textbook editions?
