Question for college students: How often do you read the textbook for your class?

I am taking a psychology class, and the teacher assigns several chapters for us to read, before each test. I always read the chapters, but this evening, I talked to another girl in that class. She told me that she only reads the chapter reviews, and that the lowest grade she has made on a test this semester, is a B+. So, my question is, do you usually read the textbook, or do you go off of other things that proabably take up less time, like notes, etc. ? Thank you!Question for college students: How often do you read the textbook for your class?
It all depends on the rigor of the class. I have in the past known many students who have used only chapter reviews and done well. One of the things to remember is that they have to fill up a textbook, and so they get paid by the word essentially. You can highlight a book to pick out the important and relevant things, this separates the garbage from the good stuff, while also coding that piece of information into your mind. While a review will do the first part easily enough, it won't give you as in depth of a brain encoding as highlighting it will. I do, however, understand that college schedules are rough, and studying summaries can be a very good way to compress the time and get what you need out of a reading. Of course it varies from book to book, but it sounds to me like this is a decent review, go for it!
I use my books as a reference when looking into concepts I don't understand well for the rest I focus on notes. I'm in science though so it may be different, reading the textbook never hurt anyone though. A lot of time textbook information is the exact same as the info in your notes just in more depth so if you understand the notes well you don't necessarily "need" to read the textbook.Question for college students: How often do you read the textbook for your class?
depends on the class for example my art appreciation class i didnt even buy the book and i have an A in the class and my Chemistry class I have a B and we dont use the book either, BUT for my Biology class we live, sleep, and eat the book. We use the text for bio every minute possible. So it depends on the course and the professor if you use the book a lot =] hopefully that helped
depends on how you learn...

i take complete notes and skim read %26amp; highlight the chapters before i go into class

and if at tests they give reviews i go back and highlight what i need to know in my notes!

and its worked out great for me.Question for college students: How often do you read the textbook for your class?
Read the chapter. Seriously, if you don't know that by the time you're in college, you've got a big problem.

Ask this girl who gets B's just reading the chapter review how many times she's taken this class before.
Just because that method works for her doesn't mean it will work for you. When I was in college, I always read every chapter and article assigned completely, and got straight A's through college.
funny you asked. i know this guy who never bought the book bt is getting an A. i have the books but i rarely read...which is bad...
