Question for college students: How often do you read the textbook for your class?

I am taking a psychology class, and the teacher assigns several chapters for us to read, before each test. I always read the chapters, but this evening, I talked to another girl in that class. She told me that she only reads the chapter reviews, and that the lowest grade she has made on a test this semester, is a B+. So, my question is, do you usually read the textbook, or do you go off of other things that proabably take up less time, like notes, etc. ? Thank you!

In my junior and senior years I read every word of every textbook assignment before the lectures on the material and I reviewed the chapters before the exams.

I received straight nearly A grades.
Depends on the class. In my physics and math courses, I read the textbooks daily. In gen-eds such as history, psychology or political science, I almost never read the textbooks. In fact, from now on I'm not even going to bother buying them, because I still manage to get B's in these classes without the books.

On my last political science exam, I assure you I had not read a single page of the material it was supposed to cover, but I still did very well because everything that was on the test was covered in class. I actually didn't take any note either, but that's because I have a keen audio memory for some reason鈥撯€揑 remember everything I hear.Question for college students: How often do you read the textbook for your class?
If they assign chapters then I would read all the chapters throughly, highlight, and take notes. If chapters aren't assigned I use the textbook as a reference.

Don't do what that other girl in your class is doing. The reason she won't make A's is because she doesn't bother to read the full text, so she doesn't have all the information going into a test. If you're fine with settling for B's then go ahead and follow in her footsteps, but it will make you less competitive for graduate schools and you will limit the maximum GPA that you could possibly achieve.
Depends on the class. My experience has been that professors test mainly from their notes so I tend to use the textbook to clarify things that I didn't understand or to find additional examples. Now, I have had professors that do take questions directly out of the textbook that they didn't cover in class, but this is rare and has never been a large part of the test. So, I might skim the chapter or read sections as needed but I have never done all of the assigned reading.Question for college students: How often do you read the textbook for your class?
Freshmen and sophomore year, I rarely read them. The classes were easier and less demanding. Some of it was familiar given high school exposure at least. It was not necessary. Especially given the quality of instruction.

After that I have read everything covered in every textbook required for class. It really helps!
Depends on you learning style. Some students can ace a class without even reading a page others need daily study habits of reading their book over and over.
Do not go by the system that someone else has for studying. Do what is good for you. I almost always read the textbook and did well./
