It's okay, i have the same feeling at school. My english isnt very good either, so your not alone. Whenever I dont understand what the sentence is saying or what that word means, I just circle it and ask the teacher or go home and check what it means. OR as a friend or the neighbour. Good luck..
Textbooks are written for people who don't have my brain, either. I just read. Pretend that I know what I'm reading about, and whenever I finish a section I try to put what I just read into my verson of English. I used to say my verson of the text to my sister, who could easily comprehend it, and now I 'study' with my roommate at college. It may also help to look for teachers who lecture more than they assign textbook work because you may find that HEARING material sticks with you better than READING it.How can i improve my reading? B/c when i read articles from skool or take notes from a textbook, i dont get it
Sometimes you have to reread cirtain things to understand them, but usually any confusion on a certain topic lets use electronics for example. You might not understand how to use Ohm's Law. So what you want to do it either ask a teacher or go online, google Ohm's Law to try and get a better understanding of it. Then once you understand the topic well, read the textbook again, and this time, you'll find it alot easier to understand. I used this method throughout highschool.
Make sure you read slowly and carefully. When you get to the bottom of a page and don't understand, don't keep reading. Go back to the top and read again. If you still don't understand, ask a teacher or a friend who understands to explain it to you. If the textbook has bold words or phrases or summaries at the end of each chapter, pay extra attention to them. These are the key ideas that are the most important for you to understand. It is always a good idea to summarize at the end of each chapter to make sure you understand. You can talk to a friend to make sure you got all the key concepts. Lastly, practice! You'll never get better if you don't.How can i improve my reading? B/c when i read articles from skool or take notes from a textbook, i dont get it
I would recommed two things, one that should help short-term and the other for a long-term benefit!
Short-term: take notes as you read. Ideally in the book, that might not be possible with textbooks, but a notebook will work as well. Your notes should include: summary of what you read (the summary should be brief but done at the end of every page) or questions (either out of lack of understanding or curiosity). This will accomplish two things-- It will make you slow down and make you translate what you are reading into your own words (which is the point of reading comprehension) and it will pinpoint things that need more clarification.
Long-term: Consider reading the newspaper and doing the following exercise: Every day read two or three articles from different parts of the newspaper. Once you have finished reading, answer the following questions about the article:
Who is the article about?
What is the article about?
When did the event of the article take place?
Where did the event of the article take place?
Why did it take place? (If applicable)
How did it take place? (If applicable)
This will begin to train your brain to look for these key elements as you are reading. You start with newspaper articles because they are short, concise and touches on each of these points. Eventually, you will automatically begin to focus in on these key points which should translate into a higher level of comprehension.
Best of luck!
