Is a textbook really needed or is the internet enough?

I am a college student. Do I really need to purchase a textbook or is the use of the internet for research enough for subjects at school? (like nutrition subjects, meal management subject, etc.)Is a textbook really needed or is the internet enough?
As the other post mentions, purchasing textbooks are necessary: most professors hand-pick test questions that are specific to the readings in your textbook. Scouring web pages can help reinforce information, but by no means should they be used to replace your textbook material. You should also be aware of sites like Wikipedia where the information can sometimes be outdated and unreliable. So purchasing your text book is an important factor in maintaining the success of your college career.

If cost is the main reason you are skeptical about purchasing your textbook, here is a great article that explains how to save money on your books: http://www.onlinecollegecourses.com/2009鈥?/a> . The article discusses the use of e-books (which are sold at the fraction of the price of paper books), reserving text books for free in the library and how you can sell your books back at the end of the semester. Another option that is growing in popularity is renting textbooks. This article here describes in full detail how to do this and some good web sites to check out for textbook rentals: http://www.onlinecollegecourses.com/2009鈥?/a>Is a textbook really needed or is the internet enough?
A surprising answer. Textbooks are needed, but you can just about get by without one. If you can't get one for any reason (say cost), you may still succeed if you work even harder at the other available information. Pay attention to 'in the course'. The internet will probably have related materials even extracts from the textbook. But for all that, having the textbook is better than these other approaches. Is a textbook really needed or is the internet enough?
Your professor will be writing the exam based on the readings assigned from the text book, not from random internet sites.
