How do I outline chapters in a textbook?

Hello, I'm going into an advanced placement class at my high school next year and one of the summer assignments is to outline the first thirteen chapters in my textbook and I was wondering what the proper formatting for a chapter outline.

Usually you use roman numerals and letters. For example:



I, II, III, IV, etc are for the main headings in the textbook.



A, B, C, D, etc are for subheadings



1, 2, 3, 4, etc are for important information in the writing under the subheadings



a, b, c, d, etc are for extra information
