What's the difference between a regular textbook and a textbook customized for a college?

I found the textbook on ebay and it's the same title, edition and author. The only difference is that it doesn't say customized for my college. My professor wrote that it's the customized version but he didn't make a big deal so I'm not sure if it matters. I really want to buy it because it's cheaper. Does the customized version have extra things? What's the difference between a regular textbook and a textbook customized for a college?
I made that mistake several times. In most cases you can buy the correct editions on eBay or from a bookstore for a fraction of the cost.

However, did the professor give you an ISBN number? They are on the bar codes of every book and the ISBN is specific to every detail. If you're edition does not have the same ISBN number as the book your professor gave, then it is the wrong one.

I bought a book that was not the right ISBN number and it didn't give me the work book that I needed for the class - I was extremely behind in all my work because of this. I know it may save you money, but in the end you might have wasted money anyway.

Companies sometimes make textbooks specifically for colleges and universities that are not made available to the general public - this may be the case for you. What's the difference between a regular textbook and a textbook customized for a college?
Don't just look on ebay.. look at usedtextbookprices.com which compares prices across 100+ websites including ebay to find you the cheapest prices. Usually custom edition is 90% or more same to the normal edition. Just check with prof if its okay.. Either ways find the ISBN of the custom textbook and check its prices via www.usedtextbookprices.com

I usually use : Usedtextbookprices.com and then buy or rent books.

I hope this does help you to some level.
