The great majority of people who immigrated to the colonies did so for economic opportunity. So why does my textbook focus more attention on the aspect of religious freedom? Is the text wrong or misleading? Why do you suppose my textbook focuses more on the aspect of religious freedom than on economic opportunity?
The religious freedom is the traditional view, perhaps because for early Americans, it painted a more saintly and moral picture of their forefathers. No one likes to think of their ancestors as money grubbers who move Indians off their land and enslave Africans. Why do you suppose my textbook focuses more on the aspect of religious freedom than on economic opportunity?
I suppose it is because a large number of the original immigrants who helped found the country came for religious freedom.
